Oxbridge

So, I go to a very competitive, intelligent all girls' school, and at my school we are all expected to achieve highly. I managed to get 10 A*s at GCSE (probably already shoved that into a previous post but it's my only achievement in life let me werk it), and now I feel under a certain pressure to apply to Oxford/Cambridge as the next step in my education.

There are several things which really put me off applying, such as the workload (I'm lazy), the type of people I would encounter there, and the style of university life. I don't know if that's the sort of thing I want to spend 3 years of my life doing - writing essay upon essay, living in a smallish college with very intellectual people, being in a sort of 'boarding school university'.

What do you think? Is it really worth the hype? I know most people think it's incredible, but is it enjoyable?

  1. If you get the opportunity to do it, take it! The need to be responsible eventually catches up with you, and this is the one time in your life when you can immerse yourself in something you enjoy, discover more about you and the world you live in, no strings attached. If you get to go, lucky you...

    1. Thank you! :) I'll see how my AS' go, and after visiting Cambridge a month or two ago I realised I do actually really like it there.

  2. My daughter started at Cambridge in September and whilst she doesn't like the 'boarding school' thing you talk of she is glad that she's there. Yes, there is a heavy work load but the terms are short and not everyone is intellectual (or nerdy). I think she would probably say apply but think about your College - hers for example expects you to live in for all the three years (something she also doesn't like).

I agree with the comment above - it you get the opportunity take it .................

    1. Thank you very much! Yes, I've been researching colleges quite a lot, but I'll make sure I visit and know exactly what I'm applying for if I do decide to apply. Thanks!
